Diabetes...A Lifestyle Disease

Diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in our culture today. Over $150 billion is spent annually on treatment. 29 million Americans have been diagnosed. 16 million have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, which means they have the symptoms and are well on their way, they just haven't been given the 'label' yet. As if giving a label to your poor state of health makes everything okay. Now here is what's really disturbing about this "Lifestyle Disease"… Six million children are diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Type II Diabetes used to be called Adult Onset Diabetes. Why in the world are our children developing Adult Onset Diabetes?? Please understand that Type II Diabetes is almost entirely a poor lifestyle disease, which means that Diabetes can be reversed and prevented through proper lifestyle choices.

Why is Diabetes so Dangerous??

Here are a few Examples:

  • 1/3 of end stage kidney diseases are due to diabetes.
  • 4 out of 5 diabetic patients die from cardiovascular disease.
  • Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in the elderly.

Diabetes - Insulin Resistance - Metabolic Syndrome

The precursor to Diabetes is called Insulin Resistance or Metabolic Syndrome, previously called (Syndrome X). For the rest of this discussion I will call it I.R., for Insulin Resistance. It is estimated that 80 million Americans have this condition. What is the cause of Diabetes and I.R.? Americans are absolutely addicted to sugar. Dr. Tim Oshea calls it the "sweet thief of life" which I feel is an accurate description. In the early 1900s we consumed 10 lbs of sugar a year. Now we are consuming around 150 lbs of this sweet poison per year. Here is what is happening: We are consuming mega amounts of sugar in foods like bread, pasta, rice, corn, potatoes, sodas, candy, junk food, cakes, cookies, ice cream etc. When we eat this garbage our pancreas releases insulin to stabilize our blood sugar. The more sugar we eat, the more insulin is released, then over time our body becomes resistant to insulin. Our pancreas then has to produce more and more insulin until it eventually gets worn our and eventually stops producing insulin altogether. Then we have chronically high blood sugar levels creating a myriad of deadly diseases.

I.R. occurs when our blood maintains dangerously high insulin levels (hypersinsulinemia) due to our ravenous appetite for carbs, resulting in the following conditions:

  • Inflammation.
  • Heart Disease.
  • High Blood Pressure.
  • Blood Clots.
  • Belly Fat.

This is just to name a few diseases caused from Insulin Resistance. How many people have these warning signs?? Millions and Millions!

Medical Approach to Diabetes and Insulin Resistance

Medical treatment for Diabetes only addresses the symptom not the cause. The symptom is high blood sugar. The doctor only prescribes insulin to lower the blood sugar levels. However, they have never addressed the root cause which is poor lifestyle choices. This creates a lifetime customer for the pharmaceutical companies which is exactly what they want.

The person is then told to take insulin for the rest of their lives. You better believe the pharmaceutical companies that sell drugs like glucophage and glypizide are banking on a lifetime customer.

Think about it like this; if Insulin corrected the root cause of diabetes then why do diabetics have to take these drugs for the rest of their lives.

Warning: If you are diabetic and on Glucophage, here are the side affects:

  • Kidney Damage.
  • Lactic Acidosis.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Abdominal Bloating.
  • anorexia.

Warning: If you are diabetic and on Glypizide, here are the side affects:

  • Increased Risk of Cardiac Mortality.
  • Kidney Disease.
  • Liver Disease
  • Hypoglycemia.
  • Constipation.
  • Skin Rashes.
  • Anemia.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headaches.
